Frequently asked questions :

Do I have to be an experienced rider?

Although experience with horseback riding is certainly preferable, it is not a prerequisite for our one or two hour outings. We will always choose a horse and an itinerary suited to your level. Please note that there is a limited number of beginner riders that we can take per group in order to maintain the safety and enjoyment of the group overall.

For our multi-day trips, it is necessary to have experience riding (i.e you have taken riding classes and at the least consider yourself completely comfortable walking your horse, trotting, and cantering, with experience on rough terrain). If you are interested on one trip, please ask us for the specific information about this ride. And we'll respond to any additional questions you'd have.

How much is the per night stay if I don’t want to include horseback riding?

The price of an overnight stay automatically includes both breakfast and an hour-long horseback ride—whether you choose to use it or not. As with recreation centers that would charge an entry fee independent of whether or not you used all the facilities, the one-hour ride is the minimum amount available to experience our installations in keeping with our mission of offering and promoting horseback riding.

How cold is it? Is there heating?

This is a very common question from our Guatemalan friends! First, defining cold is very relative given the variation experienced by different individuals. If you are seeking the heat—this is not the best place for you! We are located high in the mountains at an altitude of about 3,000 meters. The air is always somewhat cool (between 10 and 20 degrees centigrade during the day). Clouds, nighttime, or the amount of wind will make you feel colder while the sun—which is very strong here—will warm you quickly. In our experience, attitude has a lot to do with how you experience the temperature; whether or not you are mentally prepared for the cold and how motivated you are to experience the mountains. In any case, it is important to bring clothing that is warm enough in order to properly enjoy yourself.

To date, there is no heating in our rooms as we are closer to a mountain-style hostel than a luxury hotel. Nevertheless, we warm the common room each night with our wood-burning stove not to mention the human warmth generated by all! At bedtime, everyone will enjoy the five thick blankets on each bed and the delicious hot water bottle we provide thus guaranteeing a snug night’s sleep.

Can children who are beginners also ride?

Typically we accept up to one beginning level child who is six years old or older along with up to one beginner who is at least eight years old. Please note, however, that rides are a minimum of one hour long, over rough terrain, and children will be directing their horse by themselves (under our guidance and supervision). We do not offer “pony rides” where we lead a child on a horse although we can make an arrangement for very small children housed with our overnight guests so they won’t feel left out!

Is there a different price for children?

There is no special child rate for children who are using our services (a bed, their share of our scarce water supply, use of our common area) given that they use the same (or sometimes more ..) resources than an adult. Furthermore, for those children who go riding, their participation implies more responsibility and work on our part when compared to adults. Nevertheless, we can consider some price reduction in the case of children who are not horseback riding depending on the size and makeup of the overall group and the number of beds needed. This will be considered on a case by case basis.

Is there a restaurant?

There is not a restaurant per se; rather, we'll receive you in our table with the menú of the day, with homemade cook, exclusively for our overnight guests (soups, pasta dishes, meat/main dishes, homemade pastries, etc.).
